What are the characteristics of ductile iron?
Feature 1: Ductile iron has very good impact resistance and ductility. This is because the graphite flakes in spheroidal graphite cast iron become very fine carbon elements through special treatment. These tiny carbon elements enter the gap between the iron elements, which greatly enhances the spheroidal graphite cast iron. The physical properties are therefore very good impact resistance. We also know that graphite does not have ductility, but iron has good ductility. The combination of the two is the perfect inheritance of their respective advantages, making the ductile iron with impact resistance and ductility.
Feature 2: Ductile iron can effectively prevent cracks. In the foundry industry, our image is called the crack terminator. Through the microscope, experts can clearly see the cracks that the iron stops generating after the cracks enter the graphite balls. This is because graphite balls have very high stability and the possibility of cracking is very small.
Feature 3: Anti-corrosion. As mentioned above, ductile cast iron is a graphite element that enters the iron gap. As a result, corrosive objects will not corrode iron.
Compared with cast iron, ductile iron has absolute strength advantages. The tensile strength of ductile iron is 60k, while the tensile strength of cast iron is only 31k. Ductile iron has a yield strength of 40k, while cast iron does not show yield strength and eventually breaks. The strength of nodular cast iron-cost ratio is much better than cast iron. In terms of corrosion resistance, ductile iron is the same as cast iron. Ductile iron has high strength, gray cast iron has good wear resistance and good shock absorption. This is why imported vehicles use a lot of high-strength gray cast iron as gears.
